Jon Lybrook: 'I specialize in visual art at opposite ends of the spectrum. On the one hand I create chemigrams (or more correctly called, luminograms) - or paintings on *film* done with photochemistry, as opposed to paper. My images are often free-form and unpredictable, though some planning is involved. These luminograms are then transferred to computer by scanning them at high-resolution and printed on an inkjet printer.
I am also a traditional, fine art intaglio printmaker specializing in photogravures made from polymer plates. (http://intaglioeditions.com/about-jon-lybrook.html ). My better photographs, containing long tonal ranges and sharp subjects result in hand-made objects in the form of more traditional prints. More at http://jonlybrook.com
I'm a graduate of Bard College where I majored in film making. From there I moved to Boulder where I took an interest in the work and teachings of filmmaker Stan Brakhage whose classes I audited for several years. Stan's more physical work with film (scratching and painting mostly) led me to my own work with luminograms and eventually to traditional printmaking.'
